This Owl was cast from a 19th Century bronze figure and modified into a decorative lamp.

Sacred to antiquity, the owl was revered as a symbol of wisdom and was associated in Roman mythology wthe the goddess Minerva who was worshipped as the goddess of wisdom.

Owls were often featured in Regency furniture designs, not only for their decorative qualities, but also because of their significance in antiquity.
